Lyme Regis Sea School

Youth Sailing Courses

Youth Courses.

The Youth groups mainly sail single handed boats with the group run by several instructors assisted by Assistant Instructors and under the overall control of a Senior Instructor. The activities are tailored to the age of the group and whilst we pride ourselves on being able to train students to be good sailors, we also recognise that the courses must also be great fun.  Consequently many of the activities include games and competitions as a means of delivering the content of the course.

The RYA Young Sailors Scheme consists of four Stages followed by a number of optional modules.

Stage 1.

Launching and recovery, sailing across the wind, turning around, steering and basic parts of the boat

Stage 2.

Improved sailing skills on all points of sail. Tacking, gybing, ropework and collision avoidance

Stage 3.

Improved rigging, sailing theory, launching and recovery. Building confidence in a range of sailing techniques on all points of sail and capsize recovery

Stage 4.

Transferring pre-learnt skills, techniques and manoeuvres to sail crewed boats, enhance rigging, launching, recovery and practical skills to recover a man overboard.

Advances modules which we can deliver include, Sailing with Spinnakers, Day Sailing, Seamanship and Racing.
