Lyme Regis Sea School

Adult Sailing Courses

Adult Sailing Courses.

The Adult groups are taught for the most part in larger double handed boats, usually with one instructor to two and occasionally three students. A Senior Instructor is in overall control of the activities.

All participants target specific Adult RYA Qualifications which differ in content from the Youth RYA Qualifications. We are able to modify the courses towards the preferences of the students and do our best to match the individual boats crews with students of a similar age, ability and interests.

The age of the students in the adult groups varies from teenagers to much older. Older teenagers often feel conspicuous in the Youth Group and prefer to be taught in this way and usually with others of a similar age. Age is not necessarily a barrier to learning to sail, provided that students are reasonably physically able.  Many in their seventies have been taught by us.

The RYA Adult Sailing Scheme consists of a three levels followed by a number of optional Modules.

Level 1 – Start Sailing.

A course for complete beginners. Learn how to sail in all directions and awareness of launching and recovery.

Level 2 – Basic Skills

Build your confidence and gain the skills needed to sail and make decisions in good conditions.

Level 3 – Better Sailing

Improve your sailing, consolidating skills and trying new ones in a variety of conditions.

Modules which we can deliver include, Sailing with Spinnakers, Day Sailing, Seamanship and Racing.
